EFFECT OF DIFFERENT PRE –SOWING SEED TREATMENT AND HEAVY METAL ONSEED GERMINATION AND ROOT, SHOOT LENGTH OF THESPESIAPOPULNEAL.
M. R. Khan
Abstract :
The seed of ThespesiapopulneaL.treated with cool water for 12 and 24 hrs shows better germination.ThespesiapopulneaL. is medicinally important plant it is useful for wood, shad and to control the erosion in costal and desert area. The study was conducted to determine the effect of the different pretreatment on Seed germination of ThespesiapopulneaL.the result shown that the Seed soaked in water for 12 & 24 hrs shows better germination. Similarly the mechanical scarification by sand paper technique and nicking of Seed coat by knife also found useful.Treatment with growth hormones for 24 hrs 500 ppm GA3 and I.A.A. way found more significant to enhance the germination potential and the treatment with Lead, Cadmium, Zinc on Seed germination shows adverse effect and germination percentage reduced as compared to control in the higher concentration of heavy metal like Cadmium which shows moreadverse effect on growth of root and shoot length.
